05.23.2007 Broken Van = Cancelled Shows

On Sunday, May 20th, we were on our way to Sioux City, SD when our van broke down. We thought it was something easy to fix until we looked underneath and saw that the front of the engine fell off.

We got towed back to Fargo, ND hoping that we could still get it fixed in time to make it to our last few shows of tour. Unfortunately, parts had to be ordered and things took longer than expected.

To everyone coming out to our shows in Sioux City, Omaha, Wichita, Denver, Aspen, and Salt Lake City.... we are really sorry and super bummed that we can't / couldn't be there. It's a terrible way to end an amazing tour.

To Minus the Bear - We love you guys, and are going to miss you terribly.

04.09.2007 3rd Annual Chris Saathoff Foundation Benefit

Please join us on Saturday, April 14, 2007 for the third annual Christopher Saathoff Foundation benefit. This year we will celebrate at the Hideout Inn, located in Chicago. Starting at nine o'clock in the evening, twelve Chicago disc jockeys will spin blitzkrieg sets (INCLUDING A SHORT DJ SET BY THE CUCU TEAM).

Prizes will be awarded to dancers every half hour until three in the morning, and a raffle will offer awesome gifts from our sponsors. We are excited about celebrating the life of Chris through dancing, rock'n'roll, and creating new memories. All proceeds benefit the Christopher Saathoff Foundation, which contributes to worthy causes such as young musicians at the Old Town School of Folk Music, families at Judi's House in Denver, and feeding the hungry through Heifer International. To donate or learn more about the Christopher Saathoff Foundation, please visit www.chrissaathofffoundation.org.

See you there!

04.03.2007 CUCU VIDEO ON MTV2!

02.15.2007 Dear Grand Rapids, We're Sorry.

To everyone that came out to see us in Grand Rapids tonight - we're really sorry we couldn't be there. Jesse, our bass player, has been stuck in JFK airport for the past 2 days trying to get back to Chicago. After cancellations and delayed flights, we were hoping he would be able to get back in time for us to make the show tonight. Unfortunately, the flight delays continued into this evening and thus we were forced to cancel. Total bummer.

Thankfully, as I write this, Jesse is boarding a plane and will be back in a few hours - so we will be able to make it to Toronto tomorrow and continue the tour from there.

Loving this weather in a totally sarcastic manner.

12.18.2006 Happy Holidays

So we just confirmed our first show of the new year, and it's on the first day of the new year.

That's right. We're gonna drag our hungover butts to the House of Blues to play with The Hold Steady on January 1st, 2007. Hope to see you there!

12.09.2006 You just never know what will turn up on YouTube.com....

11.12.2006 How long does it take to drive about 11,700 miles?

A little over 4 weeks if you are in Chin Up Chin Up. It was a total blur, but a ton of fun (i think?). Thanks to Cursive and the Thermals for the left coast shenanigans. Oxford Collapse - I don't even know where to begin. Good times / great oldies.

So we currently have a couple days to recouperate then it is back on the road... or I guess the sky as we will be flying to our next set of shows. Hope to see you again really soon.

08.16.2005 guilty

After a year and a half, the case against the man who killed Chris Saathoff is finally over. This morning William Giraldo entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 7 years. It was difficult to hear the judge and the proceedings both literally and figuratively. I’m not sure how I or anyone else really feels about this. There has been so much time involved in all of this that to have it be over within a matter of minutes is both unsettling and a relief. We are glad it is over and that Giraldo was punished, but 7 years doesn’t quite seem like enough.

08.14.2005 Chris's Case

We want everyone to be aware that the case against the defendant in Chris's case is progressing. The next court date is slated for August 16,2005 in courtroom 606 (Judge Moran). It appears a plea and sentence could be issued on this date. We are told that the proceeding will not take very long. If you want to attend I suggest calling the Cook County Courthouse @ 2650 S. California to verify the time that the proceeding will take place. Thanks for all of your support! (Case number is 04 CR-6546)

We would definitely appreciate any and everyone coming out to this. If a plea and sentence are issued, having a large group of people showing the impact Chris's life made may influence the judge's decision.

04.18.2005 Additions and Subtractions

We are sad to announce that our master of the keyboards, Mr. Greg Sharp, is suffering from a herniated disk (or 2) in his back and has been pretty much immobile for the past 6 weeks. He is getting better, but it's a slow process. Because of this, we are going to have a replacement member on our upcoming tour in May. Jeremy Ohmes from the band Lying in States has offered up his talents and his time to learn our songs and help us make it through the tour.

Greg is going to be playing all shows we have scheduled in April since they are all close to home, but unfortunately we are going to have to cancel the show we had scheduled at Gabe's in Iowa City. The drive through the corn fields may be just a little too much for Greg's back to handle.

We're all hoping for Greg's speedy recovery. Please send some nice healing vibes his direction, and come out and say hi in May.
See you soon.

12.20.2004 Tour Dominates

1 rear differential, 1 axle, 1 alternator, 1 headlight, 2 tires, numerous disgusting smells, uncountable swigs, and approximately 20,000 miles later, it’s good to be home. Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows. To the Mercury Program, Fin Fang Foom, Victory at Sea, Old Canes, Make Believe, and the Paper Chase: Thank you so much for the good times.

So now it’s back to work. Bills need to be paid, but more importantly, new songs need to be written…

11.26.2004 Welcome to the New Site

Welcome to the newly remodeled Chin Up Chin Up website. Big thanks to Pete Croke for helping us with the creation and layout.

There is a lot of news to report.
We are very excited to announce that we have finished our full length album and it set to be released October 26, 2004 on Flameshovel Records (www.flameshovel.com). We will be touring the country in support of the new album starting at the CMJ festival in New York in October and traveling basically until Christmas time. We're going to be playing with a bunch of our friends during different sections of the tour including Mercury Program, Fin Fang Foom, Make Believe and The Paper Chase. Check out our shows page to see when we will be playing in your town. Also, we are happy to report that our good friend, Marc Young of the Appleseed Cast will be taking over bass duties. It's gonna be a party.
